Abstract

The goal of medical care is to provide a good quality care in a low price to all the people who need it any time and any place.
To achieve it the limited resources of medical care should be used efficiently through scientific management to increase bed-turnover-rate can be suggested as an effective method to accomplish it.
This study refers to the status of long-term inpatients and their efficient management programs in a tertiary medical care institute.
Data were collected via medical records review and interview to the patients, their physcian and anlysis was made by SPSS/PC program.
The following findings from this study were obtained ;
There were high fequency in medical insurance patients, male, 30-39ages and 2-3months length of stay and emergency room at admission routes.
Major departments were high in orthopedics, neurosurgery and internal medicine. Major diseases were high at injuries and poising and certain other consequences of external causes and malignant neoplasm. Total hospital service charges were high in 10,000,000-15,000,000 won per a persion and the reason for long-term inpatient was physcian¢¥s finding.
The efficient programs in long-term inpatients were as follows.
1. ! the plan of encouraging early discharge
2. medical records review in each committee (peer group, utilization review ect.)
3. the special bed policy
4. extended care facilities
In sum it will contribute to the reduction of patients¢¥ charge and increase of the efficiency of medical resources utilization as well as revenue and patient day would prepare the foundation for better management of hospitals.
